This was my first event this year, arriving at Chichester due to Ashford being cancelled. On arrival it was apparent that this was an event around the size of the Leybourne lakes Triathlon. At this point I had not been in open water this year and was feeling a bit anxious, made worse by the size of the fish (shark) we kept seeing.
We were delayed on the shore, I'm unsure why. The weather was gloomy and cold but we eventually entered the water and were soon on our way. I followed the two lap course and was soon out and on my way through transition. The bike route took us out into the country past the Rolls Royce HQ, and Goodwood race circuit. It was quite hilly, and seemed uphill in every direction we took. The course was well marshalled although there were some areas on the bike route where there were no signs or marshals present for a long way making me think I'd gone the wrong way.
I arrived at T2 in good time (for me) and then was out on the run route, which was a mixture of trail path and road. I completed the two laps which had some out and back sections.
My only standard distance triathlon event prior to today was The Hever Castle Triathlon, where I posted a 3:14 finish. Today my finish time was a good improvement on that finishing in 2:56. The cost to enter this event was £49, including a decent medal and t shirt.
