MedwayTri enrols Juniors in the year they turn eight years old as this is the first age at which Juniors are allowed to compete under the BTF rules. If you are interested in joining one of our junior squads, please contact our membership officer, Nigel Lynch at nigel@medwaytri.com in the first instance and he will help you decide which session to try first!
Junior swim sessions
As swimming is an early development sport, at MedwayTri we firmly believe in regular, targeted swimming sessions to build on technique, overall fitness and endurance. We offer two Beginner swim sessions each week (Tuesday and Thursdays), and three Development (Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays). Children are allocated a squad and a coach and the duration, intensity and volume of their swimming will be carefully progressed as they develop. The Tuesday and Friday sessions take place at Hoo Sports Centre, ME3 9EY and the Thursday session is at Strood Leisure Centre, ME2 3JQ.
Junior bike sessions
Our bike sessions are held weekly at the 2.5km, traffic-free, tarmac road circuit at Gravesend Cyclopark,
Sessions are split into two groups:
- The Development Squad focus on developing cycling skills and building strength to enable riders to compete confidently.
- The Performance Squad sessions are for more advanced riders, ensuring they get the training they need to compete in draft legal races. In this session riders typically cover 40km in the 90-minute session.
The bike session is held on a Wednesday 17:30-19:00 at Cyclopark, Gravesend, DA11 7NP.

Junior track sessions
Our track sessions are split into two groups:
- The Development Squad session is intended to ensure that the children focus on the enjoyment of running while developing their stamina and strength. With the correct structure and enjoyable games we aim to develop a lifelong love of running without any pressure.
- The Performance Squad continues to develop our juniors - once they reach a certain level, older juniors are able to maintain concentration and have the physical capabilities to benefit from these more intense sessions.
The track session is held on a Monday 18:30-19:30 at Medway Park Sports Centre in Gillingham, ME7 1HF.
